KP requests PHC CJ to form judicial commission for May 9 probe

 

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Khyber Pukongkhwa government on Sunday wrote a letter to Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, requesting the formation of a bench to investigate the May 9 incidents. Speaking to Geo News, KP Law Aftab Alam Afridi said: "A request has been sent to the chief justice by the committee to form a bench."

Afridi said the chief justice will announce the names of the panel and the first medical judge will chair the panel.

The day before, the Kimberley General Assembly, at the meeting held by Prime Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, decided to establish a jury to investigate the May 9 incident.

PTI demanded a judicial review of the May 9 protests that took place in the country last year regarding the arrest of party leader Imran Khan in the Kadir Guven case.

During the protests, PTI supporters allegedly caused damage to the public and private sectors and also carried out military operations in various parts of the country.

In May this year, PTI president Barrister Gohar Ali Khan reiterated the party's demand for a judicial review into the violence.

KP CM Gandapur also demanded a judicial inquiry to investigate the crime today.
